Australian Char Wins Corporate and Social Responsibility Award

Heat Beads® socially aware and moving forward

It was a great thrill for the team at Dandenong based Australian Char Pty Ltd, when it was recently proclaimed winner of the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce Corporate and Social Responsibility award.

Now in its 17th year, the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce Premier Regional Business Awards program was established to recognise and promote outstanding business achievements in the region.

Australian Char, manufacturer of the famous Heat Beads® BBQ briquettes, was also a finalist in the categories of Export, Employment, and Service Excellence.

According to James Sturgess principal at McPherson and Kelly Lawyers, and founding committee member of the award program “Australian Char’s efforts to support and engage with the community is inspiring. The company’s managing director Lee Gilmour is justifiably proud of winning this award, and is clearly passionate about more than just the bottom line in business.”

Lee Gilmour, Managing Director of Australian Char, states that there is a culture of care embedded within the company’s core values. “ Our core values are an integral part of our business. They are fundamental to all we do, and our employees are committed to ensuring that all that happens on a day-to-day basis in the work environment is congruent with those values. They are reflected in the actions of our employees with regards to safety and consideration for others, and in the broader community through initiatives such as our support of the Oxfam Trailwalker and sponsorship of Triple R BBQ Day.

The Heat Beads® Company wishes to continue its progress in creating a company that is not only caring for its own staff but socially aware and gives back to the community.
This latest award is public recognition of the Australian Char core values, reflected in the community by its participation in the Oxfam Trailwalker event in 2007, raising $18,000 for Oxfam’s great work in helping some of the world’s poorest people, its annual sponsorship of the Triple R BBQ Day and Managing Director, Lee Gilmour’s own personal endeavours to ‘Save the Turtles’ in the Northern Territory.

The Heat Beads® company is proud to have been awarded the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce Corporate and Social Responsibility award for the 2007 year, sponsored by Sita Environmental Solutions.
