- Our Operations
Australian Char's production facility is located on the extensive brown
coalfields of the Latrobe Valley about 150 kilometres east of Melbourne.
Victoria’s reserves are abundant and provide a consistent supply
of raw material. With a capacity of about 80,000 tonnes per annum, the
Char Plant commenced operations in 1970. The low ash and sulphur contents
of the char produced here represent outstanding low levels of carbon
impurity by world standards. Its reactivity in various applications
is comparable to hardwood charcoal.
Australian Char's Head Office is located in Melbourne.

Heat Beads®
Australian Char manufactures the iconic Heat
Beads® barbecue fuel brand that enjoys high brand recognition
and consumer acceptance as a quality product, accounting for its dominance
of the market for solid barbecue fuel throughout Australia. The brand
is also exported to Europe with great success. To support this export
focus, Australian Char also manufactures charcoal briquettes at Collie
in Western Australia.
